Ingredients:
1/2 cup of fresh cranberries
1/2 cup peaches
1/4 cup raspberries
1/2 cup guava juice or apple if you don’t have guava
1/4 cup coconut milk
Tablespoon of vegan protein powder
Almond milk to top off

I used fresh cranberries and frozen berries, all organic. Just because its cold out doesn’t mean we can’t use fall fruits to make healthy smoothies!

20131119-152932.jpg

I use plant fusion vegan protein powder. I love the taste and it is soy, dairy and gluten free.

20131119-153647.jpg
Here is what the site has to say about it:
PlantFusion is a nutritionally-complete plant protein supplement that happens to be highly digestible AND free of common food irritants. The combination of four exceptional plant proteins scores a perfect 1.0 on the Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acid Score (PDCAAS). PDCAAS is the gold standard for rating the quality of protein for human nutrition.

Just combine all ingredients and blend! The coconut milk gives it a nice rich flavor. I topped it with almond milk because its les fattening than a whole can of coco milk 😉

Enjoy!!!

Pineapple watermelon juice:

1/4 of a seedless watermelon
1 small pineapple

20130722-190558.jpg

Slice the pineapple into spears so it will fit in your juicer!

20130722-190542.jpg

This juice is amazingly yummy! It is also so hydrating. Watermelon is fabulous for hydration and can keep you going on a super hot day. It will boost your energy and is also good for immunity and skin! The sweetness of the watermelon perfectly complements the tartness of the pineapple.

To pick a pineapple, choose fresh-looking pineapples with green leaves and a firm shell. Smell it to see how fragrant it is. If it smells like sweet fruit it is ready to go.

20130722-191027.jpg

We all know that pineapple contains bromelain, and it’s actually on of the only naturally edible sources of bromelain. It helps to break down proteins and this is a wonderful digestive aid. It is an anti inflammatory, so it’s good for things like arthritis, is rich in vitamin c and some say a glass of fresh pineapple juice will help morning sickness! They contain manganese which is good for your bones.

20130722-193106.jpg

Watermelon contains essential amino acids that promote healthy blood flow. Research is showing it is a source of Lycopene, which is a carotenoid phytonutrient that’s especially important for our cardiovascular health.

Watermelon has a lot of vitamins and minerals that help with inflammation such as in your joints, as do all melons. They an also help to clean your kidneys by removing salts and other build ups.

So this juice will keep you cool and clean your system. Helping you to detoxify and give you a boost!

Enjoy this great summer favorite!

Veggie medley juice

Ingredients:

2 apples
1/2 cucumber
4 carrots
Small Bunch spinach
Small bunch kale
4 stalks celery

20130706-180239.jpg

Wash all veggies and cut to fit your juicer. This makes enough for 4 glasses of juice, so you can cut in half if you like. We made a lot because my husband was cleansing and took some to work.

This juice is great for staying healthy as part of your everyday diet. It includes some staples in juicing.

20130706-180449.jpg

The cucumber has lots of water and yields quite a bit of juice. It’s full of electrolytes and will keep you hydrated. It’s great for skin an hair, and can also be good for a hangover…..;)

Celery is also full of hydrating h2o! It’s good for your blood pressure and has alkaline properties, that help your blood. It’s also good to have when breastfeeding, not only for hydration but also for vitamins. It has a great supply of vitamin k. (Newborns are required to have this in shot form bc they don’t had sufficient amounts, so mommies can drink up!)

The apples and carrots add a sweetness that compliments the greens. Overall it’s a light and refreshing juice that is packed full of vitamins and minerals essential for any diet.

This juice will help digestion and detox your system but also give you nutrients to build up your system. I don’t always eat my kale so drinking it works great for me!

It’s so important to stay not only hydrated, but to get nutrients that your body might be loosing in the heat. It’s over 90•s f this week, so we will be having this juice a lot.

If you want to save your juices you can use citric acid. It’s available in health food stores in the baking areas. It will keep the juice fresh, although it is still best to drink the same day, if not right away.

20130706-181603.jpg

This is the kind I have. I just add to the juice and then keep it in glass jars until I’m ready! Simple.

Oh, and today was our first swim class! pictures and a post about that to come!

Enjoy your juice!

Cashew Milk by Blueprint

20130702-175630.jpg

Hi everyone! Sorry I didn’t post yesterday, but I’ve been working on some great new recipes and I want them to be perfect (taste testing rocks!) before I post them!

In the meantime, what better to do when baking but drink healthy juices?

I’ve bought a few items from the company Blueprint before, but this one is my favorite! Why? Because its tasty and healthy!

Now we all know there are good fats and bad fats, and nuts are definitely a good fat! Cashews have mainly unsaturated fat, the same kind you find in olive oil! Great for your cardiovascular system.
When I first bought this milk I said oh god! I’m not drinking this it’s full of fat! But please don’t let that throw you! It has 2 servings, so just drink half and save! (Although its yummy and hard to resist)

cashews:

Native to Brazil, this nut grows in many places in the modern world.

20130702-181544.jpg

See that green part on the bottom? There is your nut!

These nuts in raw, un-salted form are excellent for your mental health and for people with diabetes! This little nut can lower your triglycerides. People who eat nuts 1-4 times a week are at lower risk for coronaries, and blood illnesses in general.
And studies are showing that people who eat nuts are actually less likely to gain weight or be obese! They help with bone growth and strength due to magnesium, and can help prevent gallstones, which no one wants….

20130702-181631.jpg

Helping to keep your body healthy is so important and having a healthy body promotes a healthy mind! And cashews can help your mind too.
Having a small serving can ward off depression an anxiety. Don’t believe me right? Well, this nut can boost your
tryptophan levels. This turns into niacin, an acid in your body that helps your neurotransmitters. Very scientific, I know. Basically they help your brain stay balanced. Pretty amazing for such a little nut!

I would recommend this milk to anyone. It’s so tasty and good for you, or just have a few cashews every day! Or you can make your own milk, which I will
definitely be trying!

Enjoy!
