1 cup blackberries
1/2 cup raspberries
1/2 cup cherries
1/4 cup blueberries
1 cup of coconut water
For this smoothie you can use fresh fruit or frozen organic, but I like to freeze the fresh so I don’t need ice.
Combine all of the ingredients on a magic bullet or mixer and combine until smooth. It was a bit thick for me so I went back and added another cup of filtered water.
I love my magic bullet and it blends fine, but I’m saving for my vitamix. I really want one! I went to culinary school for pastry and we used it all the time to make purées and it i amazing.
Health benefits of blackberries:
These little berries are a great source of antioxidants! They are also being studied in relation to cancer prevention.
They contain ellagic acid, which help to restrain the free radicals linked to cancer. They are also an anti inflammatory. Just 1 cup contains half your daily recommendation of antioxidants, so this smoothie will load you up!
The coconut water craze that is sweeping the nation is great for health (though rough on the coconut population).
There are many brands available now on the market. Zico and vita being the most mainstream. They are also the lightest, an would be really good in this smoothie.
I really like the brand Real Coconut
It has a wonderful taste and is available with or without pulp.
Whatever brand you buy, they are loaded with potassium and electrolytes. It is such a good energizer and will revitalize you after a workout, or just hydrate you on a hot day.
This makes this my smoothie of choice for after a workout or on a summer afternoon by the pool! (Or maybe a day of outdoor yoga?)
Basically electrolyte and antioxidant overload! Stay healthy and hydrates in this heat! It’s so important to take care of your body while enjoying the outdoors!
