Grapefruit is a citrus so will have that vitamin c, but it’s also an anti-inflammatory, and it will help your cardiovascular system as well. It helps to prevent the damage done by free radicals in your system. Things like stroke, heart disease and even asthma can be controlled by a healthy diet, so eat well every day! (It also helps those common colds 🙂 )
Swiss chard is a member of the beet family and is a common plant in Europe. Why is it so good as a detox? Because it contains vital nutrients like antioxidants and vitamin c. It is similar to spinach in its benefits, and it has one of the highest levels of vitamin k in veggies!
Vitamin k is great for building strong bones, and it is also a brain booster. Studies have shown it helps neurons in the brain related to Alzheimer’s disease.
It is also rich source of omega-3 fatty acids; vitamin-A, and flavonoids anti-oxidants like ß-carotene. Carotenes convert to vitamin A inside the body.
Basically this juice is going to help your digestion but also help to build up your immune system and give you a stable dose of health promoting vitamins necessary for a strong body!
When picking chard, look for leaves featuring crispy, crunchy, brilliant dark-green color.
This veggie is harvested from June to October, so it will be fresh in a mid-year juice or recipe!
It is best used as fresh as can be, so try to buy and use as soon as you can. It is also similar to spinach in that it contains oxalic acid, combined with high vitamin k, it’s best not to eat/drink large amounts everyday.
That said, this juice is high on my list for the start of a detox program. You really want to begin the week with a system cleanser, and this one is great because of all the nutrients!
